Ol Maisor Camels

olmaisorIntroduction

Discover the unexpected on camel assisted walking safaris where each day is a new adventure. Walking on the Laikipia plains allows one to appreciate a diverse landscape where bird and animal life is plentiful - from a desert water hole, through a grove of acacia trees in ravine scrubland, and over the extensive semi-arid savannah plains.

Location

Ol Maisor Ranch is a working family ranch, situated north of Rumuruti, overlooking Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Range. Camel walks start on the ranch, and have no boundaries, with opportunities to travel in Kenya’s Northern Frontier District.

olmaisorDescription

Ol Maisor Ranch has over 60 working camels, and offers personalised and tailored camel walks. The trips can be as short as a day, and adapted for individuals, couples, and even school groups. The trips can be combined with other activities offered by Bobong Campsite. Short camel safaris can be arranged around the ranch, from over-night to up to five nights. Long-distance camel walks take people as far north as Lake Turkana, the Suguta Valley, Samburu District, Lake Baringo, or anywhere in between, or beyond. Handlers accompany camels, and the safaris offer guests an all-inclusive option, hiring of equipment, or ‘do-it-yourself’ option.

Accommodation/Facilities: As most camel walks start on the ranch, Bobong Campsite offers a good accommodation option. Once on safari, guests fly camp – either with their own equipment, or using gauze tents if opting for the all-inclusive camel safari.

Hosted by: Jasper Evans, and John and Amanda Perrett are assisted by their team of camel handlers, guides and camp staff.

olmaisorOptional Extras: Camping equipment can be hired and supplies can be purchased from Bobong with prior arrangement. Cooks and personal guiding also available.

Seasons: Bookings for camel safaris are open all year round.

Access: 20 kms by road from Rumuruti, or via Nyahururu or Nanyuki to Bobong Campsite base. Ol Maisor Ranch does have an airfield should guests wish to fly in.

Its magnificent escarpments descend into the arid lands and semi deserts of Northern Kenya. A sanctuary for over 80 mammal species including black rhino, elephant, lion, leopard, Grevy Zebra, reticulated giraffe, aardwolf, wild dog and a wealth of African game, Laikipia biodiversity is globally unique.
