Getting to Laikipia

By road

Nanyuki, 190 km north of Nairobi on the A2 motorway, is the gateway to Laikipia for visitors travelling from the Kenyan capital. The drive, on good tar all the way, takes roughly three hours via Sagana, Karatina. The road carries on to Meru and Isiolo. Laikipia can also be reached from Nakuru in the Rift Valley via Nyahururu – a drive of some 130 km on good tar that also takes about three hours. Note: Most roads in Laikipia are murram or earth; so, in view of the district’s erratic rainfall, four-wheel-drive vehicles are recommended year round.

Both carriers also operate flights to the Masai Mara National Reserve from Nanyuki, Loisaba and Samburu. Private air charters can also be arranged. Tropic Air, located in Nanyuki, operates aeroplane and helicopter air charters within Laikipia, and beyond.
