Borana Lodge
Location
Borana Lodge is situated on a 35,000-acre, wildlife rich, private, working cattle ranch, 16 miles from the equator, adjacent to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. It is set on the edge of the Samangua Valley with panoramic views of Mount Kenya, the Borana plains and the Ngare Ndare forest. Over 300 species of birds and a wide diversity of wildlife inhabit this area.
Description
Established twelve years ago, ‘Borana’ has since become a byword for luxury, exclusivity and freedom; freedom to explore this spectacular part of Africa in unrivalled style and comfort. Built from local building materials and dead wood from the ranch, the lodge is totally in keeping with its surroundings.
Accommodation/Facilities: Borana has eight guest rooms decorated in unaffected but luxurious up-country style. Four cottages have king-size double beds and four have queen-size singles. One room has a children’s bedroom attached to it. All rooms are spacious and have an open fireplace, en suite bathroom and a private verandah. A central eating and sitting area is furnished sumptuously for maximum comfort. A game ‘blind’ on the edge of the dam in the valley allows guests to watch elephant swimming. The horizon pool has superb views overlooking the valley and hills.

- Game drives, and night drives to see the nocturnal birds and animals.
- Game walks with experienced guides who point out the telling details of the bush, bringing the tracks and wild signs of Africa to life.
- Relax in a 'blind' and let the wildlife come to you.
- Horse riding - exploring the ranch like the early settlers did 75 years ago.
- Culture drives to a nearby Maasai village.
- Bush meals and sundowners.
Optional Extras: Trip to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, dance with the Maasai, guided horse treks or walking safaris with camping, and trout fishing on Mt. Kenya.
Closed Seasons: 15th April to 15th May and November.
Access: By daily schedule flight from Wilson Airport (Nairobi) to Lewa Downs, by private charter flight direct to the Borana airstrip, or by road from either Nanyuki (2 hours) or Nairobi.

Laikipia, lying on the thresholds of Kenya’s wild Northern rangelands stretches from the slopes of Mt Kenya to the rim of the Great Rift Valley and is larger than all of Kenya’s national parks and reserves except Tsavo. Its magnificent escarpments descend into the arid lands and semi deserts of Northern Kenya.
