Sweetwaters Tented Camp

Sweetwaters Tented Camp, with magnificent views across the plains to the snow capped peaks of Mount Kenya, lies in the heart of 90,000 acre Ol Pejeta Conservancy. This game sanctuary is the closest reserve to Nairobi with the ‘big five’, and has the highest ratio of game-to-area of any park or reserve in Kenya.

Description

Located in typical savannah grasslands with ‘Whistling Thorn’ and other acacia trees, overlooking a floodlit waterhole and salt-lick, Sweetwaters is truly an oasis. It offers guests some of the finest tented accommodation in Kenya, personalised service and attention, and abundant game viewing opportunities.

Accommodation & Facilities: The Camp consists of 40 luxury en-suite tents, some on ground level and some erected on raised wooden platforms. All tents are covered with thatch, keeping them cool even during the hottest day. Each spacious tent has a verandah and en-suite bathroom. The original farmhouse contains the dining room, bar and reception, and other facilities include a swimming pool.

Hosted By: The general manager, Mr. Dixon Ondieki, and his full team of trained staff.

Activities:

  • Day and night game drives, and bird / nature walks with resident naturalist.
  • Traditional camel rides
  • Bush lunches and dinners.
  • Visits to the 200 acre Chimpanzee Sanctuary, where orphaned chimps are rehabilitated and taught to fend for themselves.
  • Visits to ‘Morani’ – the 30 year old tame rhino.
  • Visit to the Ereri Multicultural Manyatta.
  • Venture on foot to find and monitor black rhinos.
  • Opportunities to see wild dog after an absence of 30 years from Laikipia.
  • Lion Tracking with the Ol Pejeta research team.

Optional Extras: Drinks, most activities and road transfers.

Closed Season: Open throughout the year.

Access: By Air Kenya or Safari Link to Nanyuki, followed by a road transfer, or by road from Nairobi (3½ hours).
